The Rundown: I entered 12,522 Goodreads Giveaways in 2025 and won 245 books. The catch? It’s not about strategy or secret hacks. It’s all about volume.
The Data:
- That’s a 1.96% win rate, or about 4–5 book wins per week.
- I reviewed 84 of the 245 books I read in 2025, but found no clear evidence that reviews improved my chances.
Why it Matters: If you’ve ever doubted the Goodreads Giveaway system, this experiment proves the wins are real. But it’s a numbers game, not a magic trick. Want better odds? Enter more. Want to help authors? Write thoughtful reviews. But don’t confuse one for the other.
Deep Dive: If you’ve ever stared at the Goodreads Giveaways page thinking, “Be honest… do people actually win these?” this post is for you. I tracked my Goodreads Giveaway stats for all of 2025, and I’m sharing the numbers, what they mean, and answers to the most common questions I see readers ask.
My 2025 Goodreads Giveaway Stats
In 2025, I:
- Entered: 12,522 giveaways
- Won: 245 books
- Posted: 84 detailed written reviews on Goodreads
That puts my win rate at ~1.96% (about 19.6 wins per 1,000 entries).
If that sounds “high,” keep in mind what Goodreads itself says, “Winners are selected at random, and odds depend on the number of eligible entries for each giveaway.”
Do People Really Win Goodreads Giveaways?
Yes. They are real sweepstakes-style giveaways, and winners are selected randomly from eligible entries.
One reason it feels like nobody wins is that many giveaways have thousands of entrants competing for a small number of copies. This means the odds can be brutal.
My Data In Plain English
It’s a volume game, not a secret hack game.
At ~1.96% overall, my results basically scream: entering a lot is what moves the needle.
- 12,522 entries in a year is about 34 entries per day.
- 245 wins per year is about 4–5 wins per week.
If someone enters, say, 200 giveaways in a year, a similar win rate would average out to ~4 wins. But randomness is messy. You could win 0, or you could win 10. That’s not a contradiction. That’s how random drawings behave.
Reviews are not proof that you’ll win more.
I posted 84 detailed reviews in 2025 of books that I read (not won). That’s a solid review output. My reviews did not increase winning. Why?
- Goodreads states winners are selected at random, with odds depending on entries.
- Goodreads Help also indicates that ratings and reviews don’t influence winning.
- More entries = more chances. That’s the simplest explanation, and it matches the official rules.
Why do you never win GoodReads Giveaways?
Because many giveaways have terrible odds. Goodreads explicitly says odds depend on the number of eligible entries. The only dependable levers you control are:
- The number of giveaways you enter.
- The giveaways that you enter, keeping in mind that lower-competition giveaways tend to have better odds.
My Advice for Goodreads Giveaways in 2026
- Treat it like a lottery with better vibes. It’s random. Don’t build expectations per giveaway.
- If your goal is more wins, enter more giveaways. That’s the honest mechanic.
- If your goal is to support authors, review when you can.
Goodreads Giveaways are absolutely winnable. My year is proof that people actually win. It’s also proof of the less glamorous truth, which is that winning is mostly math plus randomness, not a special trick.
