INITIAL THOUGHTS
I signed up to review this Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) because I craved something sexy, gothic, and mysterious. The Vampire’s Curse delivered. The cover and Salem setting immediately intrigued me. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was captivating from the first page. The pacing, the spooky atmosphere, and the character chemistry made it hard to put down.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
Charlotte, a badass former mafia-fighting defense attorney, inherits a gothic mansion in Salem from her eccentric aunt. But the mansion isn’t just filled with antiques. It is also full of ghosts, magical secrets, and one seriously sexy vampire. As she uncovers the truth about her inheritance, Charlotte learns her new home has terms and conditions, which lead her to supernatural witches, ancient evils, and forbidden desires.
MY REVIEW
Writing Style
The writing is smooth, fast-paced, and cinematic. It reads like a show I’d binge on over the weekend, equal parts sexy and spooky. Jade Christy balances plot, dialogue, and steamy moments without ever dragging.
Themes & Messages
This story revolves around themes of legacy, power, and trust. Charlotte’s arc involves reclaiming agency and learning to trust her instincts in a world that defies logic. There’s also a strong undercurrent of found family and personal rebirth.
Characters
Charlotte is everything I love in a heroine: witty, strong, and a little snarky. Her background as a high-powered attorney adds complexity to her reactions to the supernatural. Adrian, the vampire, is seductive, mysterious, and layered. Elizabeth the Witch is the grounding force that helps Charlotte adapt. The supporting characters, especially the ghosts, all add richness and intrigue.
Vibes, Settings, and Tropes
This book leans hard into gothic mansion vibes with a modern twist. Tropes include inheritance with strange terms, sexy vampire roommates, witches guiding the way, magical rules, cursed bloodlines, and enemies looming from the shadows. If you liked Casper, Twilight, or A Discovery of Witches, this fits right in.
Favorite Quotes
“If you find any gorgeous, brooding men who might be gay living near this mysterious manor house, call me immediately.” – Marcus, location 108
“I begin descending the spiral staircase, to take him straight on. He will not intimate me, though I’m nervous. What am I dealing with here? “But we’re not here to discuss French linguistics. Why are you here? How did you get in? I’m going to have to ask you to leave my home, monsieur.” – Charlotte, location 362.
“That’s it, Charlotte,” he murmurs, his voice a low rumble. “Let me hear how much you enjoy this. Want this.” – Adrian, location 1499
What Worked For Me
- Charlotte’s backstory gave her immediate credibility and made her fun to root for.
- Adrian is a sexy fantasy book boyfriend.
- The mystery, spice, and humor are never too heavy or silly.
- The ghosts and magic system were fresh, adding to the story rather than distracting.
- It’s incredibly bingeable, like a supernatural soap opera with fangs.
What Didn’t Work For Me
- I wanted more time with the vampire council. Their potential was starting to bloom.
- Jade Christy could have explained a few magical elements in more depth.
- The sexy scenes were so good I wouldn’t have minded one more.
Final Thoughts
The Vampire’s Curse is the start of a series I want more of. It’s spooky, sexy, mysterious, and addictive. Fans of A Discovery of Witches and True Blood will eat this up. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes supernatural romance with brains, bite, and a badass heroine.
Let’s Talk
Would you accept an inheritance if it meant living in a haunted gothic mansion with a vampire roommate? Asking for a friend… 👀
